EU-commission has launched a pilot project, that requires some scientist financed within the 7th framework programme to make their articles available in open access. Depending on the scientific field these must be accessible within 6- 12 months after publication.
The requirement is within seven areas, health, energy, environment, information and communication technologies (ICTs), research infrastructures, socio-economic sciences and humanities, and science in society.
The pilot project extends through the whole FP7, that is until 2013. If the model works the EU commission will extend the requirement, of open access publishing, in the following framework programmes.
