Objectives

• Inventory of all existing biodiversity research funding programmes in FP 6 countries
• Making information on EU, national and regional biodiversity research funding programmes available for all European citizens

Task 1: Identification of biodiversity programme funding agencies
Task leader: Sweden – SEPA (16)

Specific objectives:

• Inventory of all existing biodiversity research funding organisations in the EU
• Compilation of a EU Biodiversity Research Funding Compendium

Task 2: Developing common classifications of funding opportunities and programme management methodologies
Task leader: Italy – MIUR (9)

Specific objectives:

• Development of a common classification of biodiversity research funding opportunities including programme management methodologies
• Agreement on unifying criteria to be used in the member states to collect data on research funding programmes and their management methodologies

Proposal of a unified classification system within the EU for biodiversity research funding programmes and their management methodologies

Task 3: Establishment of a metadatabase of national databases and a mechanism for transnational information exchange on biodiversity research funding programme.
Task leader: Belgium – PPS (3)

Specific objectives:

• Development of a metadatabase on biodiversity research funding programmes. Based on the EU Biodiversity Research Compendium developed under task 1 and on the outcome of the workshop organised under task 2, a metadatabase will be developed on biodiversity research funding programmes. This metadatabase will give research funding organisation all over Europe a portal to EU funding programmes and databases all over Europe. The metadatabase will include a mechanism for trans-national searching for specific information.
